Einstein’s Riddle

I’ve seen this puzzle in a few places under a few names, and thought I’d have a go at solving it.

Einstein's Riddle

Read on to see the short solution (to the question of who owns the fish) and the full solution (of exactly who lives in which house, with their individual pets, drinks and cigars). Have a go at solving the puzzle yourself first. I worked it out simply by following the clues given, with the assumption that the clue stating ‘the green house is on the left of the white house’ meant that it was on the immediate left as so;

25 Moral Dilemmas

Moral dilemmas are thought experiments which ask you to imagine a difficult situation and decide what you think the morally correct course of action would be. There are no truly ‘right’ answers to these questions, as they often ask you to compare two different moral imperatives and choose which one you feel is most important.

For example, if we accept that it is morally correct to never torture a living creature, and that it is morally correct to save a human’s life if you have the ability to do so, how do you decide what to do if you can only save a human’s life by torturing someone else?

Diabetes in Cats

Since my cat Dandelion has recently been diagnosed as diabetic, I thought I’d write a quick blog post about diabetes in cats.

This particular type of diabetes is called diabetes mellitus or ‘sugar diabetes’ and actually affects around 1 in 500 cats, making it much more common than you may have imagined.

Diabetes mellitus is caused by the body having insufficient access to the hormone insulin. This can be either because the pancreas does not produce enough, or because the cells in the body are unable to respond to the insulin that is present.
